IANL Finchley Mosque conducts Nikah services for the Muslim community. Our Nikah service is here to help those who wish to be in an Islamic, halal relationship.
Nikah is a great blessing and worship. In Sharia law, the Nikah is viewed as a contract where parties agree to live as husband and wife in accordance with the Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him.
According to Islam, men and women have rights over each other and they enter into a Nikah contract with the man serving as the protector and supporter of his family – from his means.
We want all marriages to be successful and with this in mind it is important to ensure that you are ready for your Nikah and mindful of the responsibilities a Nikah entails.
May Allah SWT place barakah and happiness in all marriages. Ameen.
IANL Finchley Mosque is an approved venue for Civil Marriage Registrations.
This means those looking to get married can conduct their Nikah ceremony with the civil marriage element combined. The ceremony is conducted by our resident Imam and includes both ‘Islamic and civil’ formalities.
The civil ceremony procedure includes words of declaration, a contract and the signing of legal court documents.
The religious ceremony includes recitation of the Quran, a nikah sermon (khutbah) and dua.
One of the essential elements of a Nikah is that the man agrees to pay the woman a dowry. The dowry is not a gift, it is a mandatory requirement for all men that an amount of money or possessions with monetary value is paid to the woman. This can be paid at the time of the Nikah ceremony or later in the future. It is however, for her exclusive use.
All documents listed below must be original versions. Please bring a photocopy of each document for the Mosque to retain.
These documents must be produced before the Nikah.
The current Nikah processing fee is £200, paid in advance to cover all associated costs. Please note that this fee is non-refundable once payment has been made.
The Nikah certificate provides written proof of the marriage. There will be 3 copies of the contract signed by all parties: 1 for the groom, 1 for the bride, and the final copy will be retained on file by IANL Finchley Mosque.
It is very important that you retain this certificate, as it may be needed in the future. For example if you are planning to undertake Hajj / Umrah – the Nikah certificate proves a valid Nikah, especially as husbands and wives often have different surnames.
The names on the photo ID will be the names that will be written on the Nikah certificate.
Please note we will not be able to write down any other names.
All of the above information is for general guidance. It is important to seek independent, professional advice relevant to your specific circumstances if needed. IANL Finchley Mosque only conducts the Nikah ceremony, we do not provide any legally binding advice.
