About IANL

[aioseo_breadcrumbs]

Welcome to The Islamic Association of North London, Finchley Mosque

Located in the London Borough of Barnet, we are part of a thriving, vibrant community with a Muslim population of approximately 55,000.

Attendees of our beloved Mosque have backgrounds from over 65 different countries, making the IANL Finchley Mosque congregation unique and spectacularly diverse.

IANL Finchley Mosque was established in 1977 and since then we have been serving this wonderful community through hundreds of initiatives.

Due to our ever increasing numbers, we are currently working to expand our site at Tally Ho Corner, North Finchley.

Our Services

IANL Finchley Mosque proudly offers a range of services to our congregation, including:

Our Missions

The advancement of religion in accordance with the tenets, philosophy, ideology and traditions of Islam.

The advancement of education of Muslim children in alignment with the tenets and teachings of Islam.

The relief of members of the Muslim community who are experiencing poverty or distress.

Presently, IANL Finchley Mosque accommodates 650 worshippers. Daily prayers are well attended and the
centre is extremely popular on Fridays for Jummah prayers, the two festivals of Eid, as well as Ramdan – the Muslim month of fasting.

Due to its growing popularity and the expanding local population, we currently hold 3 congregational prayers on Fridays and 5 congregational prayers on the respective Eid days to ensure we accommodate everybody.

We pride ourselves on being a welcoming and open place of worship as we look forward to welcoming new members.

Charity Trustees

The daily running of IANL Finchley Mosque is managed by our operations team under our Director, Imam Hamid Qureshi. Alhamdulillah (praise be to Allah).

Trustees are elected every two years by the members of the association. Both the Trustees and Office Bearers provide their services on a solely voluntary basis.

The following is the list of IANL Finchley Mosque CIO Trustees,
who were elected at the AGM held on 23rd January 2022.

Election Commissioner:
Maswood Ahmed from Muslim Council of Britain.

The Imams

After completing his primary education in Belgium, Imam Oussama moved to Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, to attend the Institute of Islamic Education (Darul Uloom).

He completed his hifdh at the age of 13 and followed this with 5 years of studying Arabic language and Islamic sciences. The next 2 years were spent at the College of Knowledge and Guidance, in Blackburn, where Imam Oussama completed his studies and graduated as an Alim. After his graduation he went on to pursue a Masters in Islamic Studies from the Markfield Institute of Higher Education.

Imam Oussama has been an Imam and Khateeb for over a decade in both Belgium and the UK, as well as working as a Chaplain in Her Majesty’s Prison Service for 4 years.

His unique style is renowned in Finchley and he always delivers engaging talks and Khutba’s. Outside of work, Imam Oussama loves to keep fit, is an avid reader, and enjoys travelling.

Imam Hamid was born and raised a ‘Finchlean’ having attended Madrasa at 36 Long Lane; (where the Masjid first used to be) – and secondary school at Christ’s College Finchley.

Having finished his secular education, Imam Hamid began pursuing understanding of the Islamic disciplines by travelling to Cairo, Egypt, and joining Al Azhar University. He received a diploma from the Islamic Missions College, Al Azhar, in Islamic Studies and then completed a degree in Islamic Law at Al Azhar University. Finally he went on to complete a Masters in Islamic Political Science.

Imam Hamid has now returned to Finchley, delivering intensive courses, detailed seminars and inspirational talks. He has recently taken up the position as Director of IANL Finchley Mosque.

Outside of work, Imam Hamid enjoys reading, playing football, and cycling.

If you would like to help us extend our premises in order to accommodate 1500 worshippers, as well as provide a whole new range of holistic services to benefit our wonderful community…
